PCC & Steel Pipe Leaks

Pre-stressed Concrete Pipes present unique opportunities for the use of composite repairs.  Over time the pre-stressed wires can break causing a loss in pressure bearing capacity and sometimes a loss of compressive resistance to dead loads on top of the existing pipe.

The traditional methods of removal and replacement can result in large amounts of down time including excessive expense due to the location private structures above the area of repair.  Steel slip lining can present some advantages over removal and replacement but still have some serious drawbacks such as reduced flow, eventual corrosion, and large set up costs that make it expensive for small areas or areas with unusual shapes and turns in the existing pipe.

Composites present some unusual advantages in this type of environment that can also include, underground vaults, catch basins, and other similar structures:

  • High strength: Can be engineered for compressive resistance for live or dead oads above the pipe.
  • Non Corrosive: can function in water or sewer environments
  • Ease of application: access through typical manholes with little or no removal or replacements
  • Fast:  Significantly reduced mobilization and set up costs
  • Versatile: can be used to conform to unusual shapes, turns, intersections with little  problem
